Hugh Akins is a Traditional Catholic author, lecturer and activist whose published writings and live and recorded talks have reached tens of thousands of Catholics in America and abroad.

Going on forty-four years of “Soldiering for Christ” (the title of one of his first articles which is soon to reappear as a full-length treatise on Catholic Action), Hugh began studying religious and political issues and world events and their root causes in 1969, the year he returned home from two years of heavy combat in Southeast Asia.  He served in Vietnam with the famed 173rd Airborne Brigade, the Army’s elite infantry/paratroop unit and most decorated rapid-deployment strike force, participating in some of the biggest and costliest battles of the war (The Battle for the Central Highlands, Battle for Dak To, the taking of Hill 875, etc.).

A major turning point in his life occurred while lying wounded in a military hospital in Taipei, Taiwan.  It was there that he began reading everything he could get his hands on to better understand what he and many other combat vets began seeing as the insanity of Washington’s treasonous no-win war policy in which U.S. forces were purposely made to fight at a tremendous disadvantage and U.S. taxpayers were forced to fund both sides of the conflict.  By sending billions of dollars every year in (technological and strategic) foreign aid to the communist governments while we were engaged in deadly jungle warfare with communism in Vietnam, our government was subsidizing the very enemy that was killing young American soldiers in harm’s way as well as scores of innocent Vietnamese and Cambodians.  To this very day America is still bankrolling its deadliest enemies, i.e. Israel and the Zionists.

It was during his stay in the hospital that Hugh read something that would turn his life around.  It was a simple brochure on the miracle and message of Fatima that referenced Pope Pius XI’s eye-opening encyclical on communism, which he promptly ordered and immediately devoured and acted on.  Nineteen years old at the time, he’d never before heard of Fatima and had no idea what a papal encyclical was.  Nor did he know how to pray the Rosary.  “How terribly tragic” he would write some years later, “that so many good parents could be so negligent by failing to raise their sons integrally Catholic and to form them as true soldiers of Christ.  That same negligence, for the most part, is characteristic of the Traditional Catholic Movement today, which explains why the Counterrevolution remains a sleeping giant that puts up little resistance against the Organized Evil that is overrunning the Church and City of God.”  Nevertheless, this awakening was the beginning of Hugh Akins’ lifelong commitment to studying the mind of the Magisterium, to rousing good men to Catholic Action and to rallying them under the banner of Christ the King.

Four decades later, many today consider Hugh Akins a leading authority on the papal encyclicals and on Catholic Action, and one of the few true inspirations behind the Catholic Counterrevolution – subjects on which he has written and spoken prolifically and eloquently.
